Premier Liverpool set to maintain top spot

Liverpool set to maintain top spot

12th April 2014

Whilst the FA Cup semi-finals would normally take center stage, the lack of top teams bar Aresnal, in the final four has taken some of the shine of semi-final weekend for many punters.

The biggest punting game of the weekend looks sure to be Liverpool at home to Manchester City. Top takes on third.

City remain favourites for the title despite being four points behind the Merseyside team. That's because they have two games in hand and a win at Anfield would see that gap rduced to a single point.

City have drawn four of their last six visits to Anfield including a 2-2 draw in the fixture last season.

City are a best priced 2/1 with Corals in a market that is 100% over round if you shop around for the best oprices. Liverpool can be backed at 6/4 with Hills and PaddyPower and the stalemate is 27/10 with Bet365.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers must decide whether to stick with Mamadou Sakho at centre-back or recall Daniel Agger following a knee problem.

Jose Enrique remains out, but Joe Allen could return should Rodgers opt to play an extra man in midfield.

Manchester City top scorer Sergio Aguero is set to feature after missing five games with a hamstring injury.

Yaya Toure has overcome a minor niggle, but Matija Nastasic is still out with a knee problem.

The other factor for Liverpool is that the game marks 25 years since Hillsborough and there will be a tribute prior to the game and after 7 minutes - the time the Liverpool v Forest game all those years ago was stopped.

Rodgers will try and keep his side foccused, but with City knowing a draw will enable them to overhaul Liverpool because of the games in hand, the tempo may be less franatic than punters might think.

Both sides have been scoring for fun and the natural inclination is to think goals will come. But with so much at stake the best bet is to go for unders as the price doesn't reflect the liklihood in our view. Predicting the result looks tougher, but all things being equal the vale is in the draw.
