The Republic of Ireland have a chnace to make a good start to their Eurpean campaign. Manager Mick McCarthy may not have a Robbie Keane in his young squad but they should take care of Gibralter.

The part-timers play on the plastic at the Victoria Stadium, but the odds of 60/1 a home, 20s the draw and 1/25 the away say it all.

There has to be a case for the minnow nations to play-off for places in these tournaments but new boss, Mick McCarthy, in his second spell at the Irish helm will know only a solid win by 3 or 4 will do.

The group could end up being decided on who puts more past Gibralter and worryingly Ireland have not scored in their last four games.

Gibralter have actually won two of their last four games against fellow minnows Litchenstein and Armenia but they lost 4-0 to Macedonia and 6-2 to Armenia in a return game.

Ireland are head and shoulders above both Armenia and Macedonia and should win this. Preston's Sean Maguire could start in attacke with Shane Long a late no show. Maguire has been in good, recent form and could be under the radar for first goal.

Ireland are ranked 34 in the World - Gibralter 194!
