The race for promotion in the Championship has far more at stake than the race for Premier League places. Sheffield United and Norwich have both retruned to the promised land. Leeds and West Brom are guaranteed play-off spots and Villa are there too.

That leaves former Premier League luminaries like Boro - managed by Tony Pulis who did sterling things with palace and Stoke in the top flight as well as West Brom - who in sacking Pulis probabaly engineered their own downfall as they were relegated.

Great things were expected of Frank Lampard but it's fair to say his end of term report will be mixed, especially if they don't even make the play-offs. Which leaves Bristol City who in Lee Johnson have an exciting young boss along Eddie Howe lines.

Derby are in the driving seat on 71 points and face WBA at home. The later know they are alreday there and will have a second leg home tie along with Leeds even if they lose.  Derby are odds on whereas a week ago they might have been 11/8 shots - the dilemma for any team in West Brom's position is keeping players well but avoiding a heavy defeat to dent confidence!

Boro face relegated Rotherham - who have been better in our view than their final position. On a meagre budget they gave it a good shout and Boro have dithered and dallied looking certs for the play-offs in March.

Bristol City are away at Hull and need to win and hope Derbt lose to have a real chance. They have a tough game and are behind both their rivals. But they have won 11 games on the road and we can see both Derby and Boro coming unstuck.

City may grab that final spot and at big odds might be worth a poke to get promoted at 66/1 with Bet365.
